For the past two decades, Carolyn Monastra’s work has focused on creating and discovering mystery in the natural world. She uses photography, video, sound, public art and community-engagement to address environmental issues and examine humans’ relationship with our ecosystems. Through her various photographic series she has researched documenting the climate crisis and species extinction. In her most recent series “lovely, dark and deep,” she aims to depict the woods and forests in a mythical manner, capturing their beauty and secrets. These fragmented, long twilight exposures capture a mystifying but also alluring version of the woods.
