Jongwang Lee
Jongwang Lee's liquid paintings seek to balance the spiritual and the physical worlds. He works in layers of oil paint, pigments and resin, a temperamental and “devilish” medium. While the Lee’s recent work has a contemporary Pop Art sensibility, his influences are drawn from 5,000 years of Korean history as well as his experiences in the United States.
Lee was born in Seoul, Korea in 1960. He is a tenured instructor of Sumi-e oil painting and drawing at the Nakano Art Center in Japan and currently teaches Sumi-e painting at the National Jewish Council Center in New York.
